NYC Continues to be Plagued by Scooter Bandits, Snatching Necklaces, Electronics

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The New York City Police Department is conducting an investigation into a series of necklace thefts across Midtown South and Midtown North. These incidents, all involving scooter-riding suspects, took place in early January.

On Thursday, January 11, around 2:42 pm, a 40-year-old woman was targeted near Broadway and West 35 Street. The suspects snatched her necklace and fled north on Sixth Avenue. Later that day, at approximately 5:15 pm, a similar incident occurred near Avenue of the Americas and West 55 Street, where a 24-year-old man had his necklace stolen.

Earlier, on Tuesday, January 2, at 4:32 pm, a 20-year-old man fell victim at the Bowery and Canal Street, with the thieves fleeing west on Canal Street. Another incident was reported on January 10 around 2:15 pm at Forsyth Street and Grand Street, involving a 24-year-old woman.

The suspects are described as males around 5’10” tall, with medium complexions and slim builds. One was seen wearing a gray and black jacket, black pants, and blue sneakers, while the other wore a black jacket, black jeans, and blue and white sneakers. They were using a dark-colored scooter.
