Police Pursue Suspects After Attempted Burglary and Shooting at Upper Marlboro Gas Station

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – An attempted burglary at a gas station in Upper Marlboro escalated into gunfire and a police pursuit.

The incident occurred overnight Sunday on Crain Highway. Prince George’s County Police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a burglary in progress.

Officers found a van, stolen from a church, backed into the front of the gas station. Two men, Dennis and Robert Burkett, were seen fleeing the scene in the van.

During the confrontation, one officer was dragged by the van, and another shot the driver. Despite being wounded, Dennis Burkett led the police on a 30-minute chase before the van became disabled in Temple Hills.

Both Dennis and Robert Burkett were arrested. Dennis Burkett faced charges related to the burglary and the ensuing pursuit. The Prince George’s County Police continue to investigate the incident.
