Suspect Charged in Utica Backyard Shotgun Firing

UTICA, NY – On Wednesday, Utica Police responded to a shots fired report at around 10:50 AM in the 1100 block of Steuben St.

Officers located spent shotgun shells near a residence’s back porch. A subsequent investigation led to the detention of two men, with the first man, Alex Lanaux, 31, of Utica, identified as the shooter.

A search of the residence uncovered a sawed-off shotgun and live ammunition.

Lanaux, found responsible for firing shots in the backyard, was charged with multiple felonies, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree (defaced and prior conviction) and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

Additionally, he faces a charge under the Utica City Code of Firing a Firearm within City limits.
