Seaford Man Arrested for Drug Offenses and Resisting Arrest During Traffic Stop

Seaford, DE – Delaware State Police apprehended 33-year-old William Matthews of Seaford for multiple offenses, including drug charges and resisting arrest, stemming from a traffic stop on Friday, February 16. The incident unfolded around 9:59 a.m. when a trooper noticed a tan Ford Crown Victoria with an equipment violation on Middleford Road near Old Furnace Road.

The vehicle, driven by Matthews, pulled over at a residence on Hastings Farm Road. Matthews then fled on foot, clutching a green container, and led the trooper on a chase to the backyard of the residence. Despite multiple commands to stop, Matthews attempted to conceal the container under a shed, leading to his arrest after a taser was deployed.

The container was found to hold approximately 44 plastic capsules of crack/cocaine, weighing about 23.97 grams, a small amount of marijuana, and $111 in cash. Matthews faces charges including felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a vehicle with improper window tint.

Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Matthews was detained at Sussex Correctional Institution on an $11,000 secured bond.
