by Charlie Dwyer

ENGLEWOOD, NJ – A stolen 2019 Honda Pilot involved in a high-speed pursuit caused significant damage and led to a police cruiser being towed on Wednesday night. Deputy Police Chief Matthew de la Rosa reported that the vehicle, reported stolen from Elizabeth earlier that day, was flagged by a license plate reader shortly after 10:30 p.m.

When Englewood officers attempted to halt the SUV on South Dean Street, the driver accelerated, initiating the chase. The pursuit escalated on Broad Avenue, where the Honda Pilot collided with a police cruiser, causing it to spin out. Despite severe damage to the police vehicle, the officer involved was unharmed.

The chase continued onto southbound Route 95, reaching speeds between 85 to 100 miles per hour. Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was eventually called off at Exit 16W of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The same vehicle managed to evade capture again in Middlesex County shortly after, adding to the concerns of the police department.
