Bronx Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Brutal Murder

by Law and Crime Report

District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced today that Adones Betances, 26, of Bronx, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the first-degree murder of 18-year-old Winston Ortiz.

Betances was convicted after a three-week jury trial, where evidence showed he stabbed Ortiz multiple times before setting him on fire in a hallway on August 12, 2020. The brutal attack stemmed from Betances’ anger over his sister’s relationship with the victim.

District Attorney Clark condemned the heinous crime, highlighting Ortiz’s character as a caring individual and emphasizing the horrific manner in which he was killed. The sentencing was handed down by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Jeanette Rodriguez-Morick.
