ORANGE COUNTY, NY – District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced the sentencing of Emmanuel Gates, 25, of Poughkeepsie, to a total of 13 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. This sentence, delivered on April 2, comes after Gates pleaded guilty to charges of Burglary in the First Degree and Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree in Orange County Court.

Court documents reveal that Gates was caught on surveillance on August 4, 2023, burglarizing a home in the Town of New Windsor and stealing a motor vehicle, which was later recovered in the City of Newburgh. At the time of his arrest, Gates possessed the stolen car’s keys.

Another incident on August 13 involved Gates and co-defendants forcefully entering a City of Newburgh residence, where they assaulted the victim and stole property. Gates, armed with a knife, inflicted a facial wound on the victim. During his plea, Gates admitted to the intent of committing a crime within the residence, where a sharp instrument was used to threaten or cause harm.
