NEW HAVEN, CT – A Waterbury resident has admitted to participating in a planned robbery targeting drugs and money.
Kareem Porter, known as “Reem,” 25, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven. The crime, aimed at a Bridgeport apartment believed to contain drugs and cash, occurred on April 28, 2023, but ultimately failed.
Porter, alongside accomplices Andy Marte and Tyrone Allen, attempted to break into the apartment with a crowbar under Marte’s instruction, who also acted as the lookout and getaway driver. Jermaine Bethel later joined the attempt. Law enforcement intervention led to the discovery and seizure of two handguns and the crowbar used in the attempted robbery.
The charge against Porter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, with his sentencing scheduled for July 2. Currently, Porter is out on a $50,000 bond awaiting his sentencing.
