BROOKLYN, NY – A traffic collision in Queens has led to the arrest of 58-year-old Carlos Lobo of Brooklyn. Following a detailed investigation into a collision on March 9, Lobo faces several charges, including Motor Vehicle Failure to Yield, Failure to Exercise Due Care, and Failure to Use Due Care.
The incident unfolded around 1:57 p.m. when police were alerted to a collision at 37th Avenue and 72nd Street intersection, within the 115 Precinct’s jurisdiction. A 2018 Nissan pickup truck, driven by Lobo, was reportedly heading east on 72 Street before turning north on 37 Avenue. During this maneuver, the vehicle struck a 66-year-old male pedestrian crossing 72 Street in the crosswalk from east to west.
The pedestrian sustained severe head injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he is listed in critical condition.
Lobo, who remained at the scene following the accident, was unharmed. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad continues investigating the circumstances of this incident.
