Flock of Sheep Temporarily Escapes, Prompting Police Response

In Lower Township, a small herd of sheep temporarily disrupted traffic on Breakwater Road, leading to a quaint police operation. On Tuesday morning, local police were alerted by dispatch to a rather unexpected sight: nine sheep wandering in the roadway.

The sheep, belonging to Stephanie Witt and her family, had ventured from their usual confines. Officers Patrick Aiken, Kyle Boyle, and Bill Rod quickly responded, herding the four adults and five lambs safely back to their pasture. The sheep had been free-ranging due to their usual pasture being flooded from recent rainstorms.

Despite their brief taste of freedom, the sheep did not wander far, thanks to the family’s property being largely surrounded by woods. However, they found the one gap and took their chance, only to be corralled back home where a playful time-out and a “fuzzy photo shoot” awaited them.

The incident brought a touch of humor to the township’s police force, accustomed to unusual calls but rarely involving livestock in the road. For Stephanie Witt’s home-schooled children, the sheep’s escapade turned into an impromptu lesson on the importance of vigilant supervision during their outdoor adventures.
