HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Harford County Sheriff’s Office successfully utilized drone technology in apprehending suspects related to two violent home invasions. This marks the second use of drones in under a week to quickly arrest suspects involved in serious crimes.

On the morning of April 10, deputies were dispatched to a shooting in the 200 block of Highland Road. An adult female was found injured. Utilizing a drone launched at 5:59 AM, deputies located the suspect hiding under a tree behind apartments on Sunflower Drive by 6:14 AM, facilitating a swift arrest.

In a separate incident on April 13, a home invasion and sexual assault were reported around 11:13 PM in the 600 block of Crossgate Avenue, Edgewood. Deputies deployed both a K9 unit and a drone. The drone played a critical role in tracking the fleeing suspect to a residence, leading to an arrest within an hour.

Sheriff Gahler emphasized the significant impact of drone technology on enhancing community safety and the ability of law enforcement to respond rapidly to threats, stating these tools help ensure peace of mind for the community.
