46 Dogs Rescued and Police Officer Injured in Essex County Industrial Complex Fire

A police officer suffered smoke inhalation, and 46 dogs were rescued from a boarding facility during a fire at an industrial complex in Essex County late Saturday night.

Authorities reported the incident at the Pio Costa Industrial Complex on Bloomfield Avenue in Fairfield. Police officers from Fairfield, West Caldwell, North Caldwell, and Wayne responded to reports of smoke around 9:35 p.m. The fire was located in building No. 9, which houses various businesses, including K9 Resorts Hotel, a full-time dog boarding facility.

Officers evacuated the dogs, and firefighters took over when conditions became unsafe. All 46 dogs were successfully evacuated and transferred to another facility, where they received veterinary care. A police officer from Fairfield also suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to a local hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau. Initial findings suggest that the MR Convenience and Smoke Shop area sustained the most fire damage.

Other businesses like Eatery Care Kitchen, Bella Art Tattoo, and K9 Resorts Hotel were reported to have experienced smoke damage.
