I-787 Traffic Halted After Jumper Falls to Death on Overpass

A person jumped to their death from an interstate overpass, leading to a temporary closure of the highway in Albany County. The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday near the I-90/I-787 interchange in Albany. According to New York State Police, the individual jumped from the I-90 overpass onto I-787 and was declared dead at the scene.

The identity of the person had not been disclosed as of early Tuesday afternoon. Fortunately, no vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were reported.

The tragic event resulted in the closure of all northbound lanes of I-787 between exits 5 and 6 for approximately 90 minutes. Normal traffic flow was restored, and the roadway fully reopened at noon. Following the incident, the New York State Police announced on Twitter that northbound I-787 in Albany had been reopened, allowing commuters to resume their journeys.
