On a date that was this past Sunday, Utica Police officers were alerted to an individual making threatening statements about shooting people with an AK-47. The male suspect conveyed these threats through messages to others, accompanied by images of the firearm. The male had also displayed rifle magazines, heightening concerns among those who received them.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, authorities pursued an Extreme Risk Protection Order, meeting the necessary criteria for its issuance. Subsequently, officers proceeded to the individual’s residence on Taylor Avenue, Utica. Upon locating him, a search of the premises followed, uncovering the mentioned rifle along with magazines and related firearm components.
The suspect, Edward Reesh, aged 42 from Utica, was then apprehended for illegal possession of the firearm and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree four times, which included two instances related to a previous conviction for an assault rifle and large-capacity ammunition device.
