Arrest Made in Newport News Double Murder Case

Newport News, VA – After a thorough investigation, NNPD arrested and charged Camari Hayes, 20, with the double-homicide of two teenage males that occurred last August in the 4900 block of Rochester Court. On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at approximately 9:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene where one 15-year-old was pronounced dead, and another victim, 17, later succumbed to his injuries.

Warrants charged Hayes with first-degree murder (x2), use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (x2), reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in public.

He was served the warrants on Monday, April 29, at Newport News City Jail, where he was in custody on unrelated charges. Chief of Police Steve Drew expressed gratitude to the community, officers, and detectives for their support and dedication in bringing closure to the case.
