WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sahid Sesay, a 36-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., faces charges of felony second-degree theft and misdemeanor threats, as announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). A grand jury delivered the indictment on May 22, 2024, with an arraignment scheduled for May 29th.
The charges stem from an incident on January 16, 2024, at a CVS store in Northwest Washington, where Sesay allegedly stole several items. Prior to the theft, he reportedly chased an employee around the store, leaped onto the cashier counter, and issued threats. Sesay was apprehended by the MPD shortly after the incident.
Given his criminal record, which includes two or more prior theft convictions, Sesay is subject to enhanced penalties under D.C. law. These include a mandatory minimum sentence of one year in jail for each count of theft. The case is currently being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Couce, following an investigation by the MPD and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
