Manhattan Man Indicted for Unprovoked Stabbing at Port Authority Bus Terminal

NEW YORK, NY – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced today the indictment of Michael McCloskey, 42, for a brutal attack that occurred last month at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. McCloskey faces charges including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree, following the stabbing of a 65-year-old carpenter.

The indictment, which also includes charges for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and two counts of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, was presented at the New York State Supreme Court, where McCloskey was arraigned last Wednesday.

On the morning of April 22, at about 5:40 AM, the victim was at the bus terminal awaiting a coworker when he was attacked by McCloskey, who allegedly stabbed him nine times in various areas including the throat and back. The carpenter sustained severe injuries, resulting in approximately 47 stitches at Bellevue Hospital where he stayed overnight.

The attack, captured by surveillance at the terminal, prompted immediate action by patrolling officers from the Port Authority Police, who apprehended McCloskey at the scene and recovered the weapon used in the assault.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Sidney Balman III, under the supervision of higher-level legal authorities within the DA’s office. The prosecution team acknowledges the swift response of the Port Authority Police and medical personnel, which was crucial in managing the situation and aiding the injured carpenter.
