Firearm Recovery and Arrest Made During Mattapan Traffic Stop

MATTAPAN, MA — A routine traffic stop in Mattapan led to the discovery of a firearm and the arrest of a local man, Boston Police Department reported. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, July 2, 2024, at approximately 2:43 AM.

District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) officers were patrolling near Norfolk St. and Wildwood St. when they noticed a vehicle with a defective brake light. The stop was made at 1257 Blue Hill Ave, where officers engaged with the driver, identified as 22-year-old Trayvon Ricks from Norwood, and his passenger.

During the investigation, officers found a Tanfoglio .40 caliber handgun with a large capacity magazine containing 14 rounds of ammunition inside a backpack in the vehicle. Ricks was arrested at the scene.

He faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity feeding device, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration. Ricks is expected to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court.
