Gunfire At D.C. Rec Center Injures Two Woman And Cop

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Authorities are searching for suspects after a shooting at a basketball game Thursday night left three people injured, including a police officer.

Just before 11:30 p.m., officers monitored a basketball game at a court in the 1200 block of Canal Street in Southwest D.C.. As the game concluded, gunshots were heard. A woman who had been shot was taken to the hospital, and shortly after, another woman shot near the court also arrived at the hospital. Both women sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the D.C. Police Union, a bullet struck an officer in the chest, but he was wearing a vest and was not seriously hurt. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
