Hate Crime: NYPD Seeks Suspect Who Screamed Slurs and Spit on Jewish New Yorker

NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in an aggravated harassment incident that took place in the Upper East Side on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. near the intersection of 5th Avenue and East 68th Street. A 65-year-old male victim was approached by an unidentified individual who made anti-Semitic remarks before pulling down his face mask and spitting on him. The suspect then fled on foot towards Madison Avenue.

No injuries were reported following the incident, which is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force.

The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion, last seen wearing black pants, a black hat, and a multicolored shirt.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or whereabouts to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
