State police investigate restaurant robbery in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that took place at a restaurant in Laurel on Sunday night.

At approximately 10:22 p.m. on September 8, troopers were called to Tacos Chabelita, located at 30661 Sussex Highway, after reports of a robbery. Investigators say an unknown male suspect entered the business, assaulted the victims, and took money that was on a table.

Before fleeing, the suspect caused additional damage by breaking windows and damaging a vehicle in the parking lot. He also reportedly assaulted another victim with a hammer. Troopers were unable to locate the suspect after a search of the area.

The suspect is described as a Black male, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall, of medium build. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants and either a white or black shirt. Authorities have not yet released surveillance footage or images.
