Stafford, VA – A 17-year-old male from Stafford was taken into custody after attempting to flee from a traffic stop while in possession of a handgun on Tuesday afternoon.

On Sunday around 6:16 p.m., Sergeant B.U. Demirci was patrolling near Warrenton Road and Soloman Drive. He spotted a Chevy with license plates registered to a demolished Dodge. Finding this suspicious, Sergeant Demirci initiated a traffic stop at the Red Roof Inn located at 386 Warrenton Road.

Before approaching the vehicle’s occupants, Sergeant Demirci noticed one individual trying to conceal something. Additional deputies were called to the scene. The suspect admitted to hiding a bottle of Bud Light in the vehicle. However, further scrutiny revealed more concerning items in his crossbody bag.

While speaking with Sergeant Demirci and Deputy C.M. Sterne, the suspect exhibited pre-flight behaviors. He then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly detained. Deputies discovered a stolen credit card and a firearm inside his bag.
