BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A New York Police Department School Safety Agent was taken into custody this week following allegations of assault and criminal mischief in Coney Island, according to the 60th Precinct.
Douglas Brooks, 30, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief. Details of the alleged incidents leading to Brooks’ arrest have not been disclosed by law enforcement, and it remains unclear whether the charges stem from incidents on or off school property.
A spokesperson for the NYPD confirmed Brooks’ arrest but declined to comment further on the nature of the charges or the circumstances surrounding the arrest. The School Safety Division, which employs over 5,000 agents, is responsible for maintaining security and order within New York City’s public school system.
According to police records, third-degree assault charges in New York typically involve causing injury to another person with the intent to harm, while third-degree criminal mischief generally includes the intentional damaging of property valued at more than $250.
