Columbus Man Surrenders to Police After Shooting Murder on 5th Avenue

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Columbus, and the suspect later surrendered to police without incident, authorities said.

Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of E. 5th Avenue at approximately 5:49 a.m. on November 3, following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Treh East suffering from a gunshot wound. East was transported to a local hospital by medics but was pronounced dead at 6:21 a.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Awil Mohamed, and East had been involved in a dispute prior to the shooting. After the incident, Mohamed drove to another location, where he surrendered to police without further incident.
