Two men dead after apparent shootout in District Heights parking lot

Police say two men who knew each other died after exchanging gunfire during an altercation in Prince George’s County.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — A fatal shooting Friday night in Prince George’s County left two men dead in what investigators believe was a mutual exchange of gunfire, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 9:25 p.m. in the 6200 block of Surrey Square Lane in an unincorporated area of District Heights. Upon arrival, they found 24-year-old Vernon Bond III and 28-year-old Jonathan Jamal Williams, both of Washington, D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot.

Emergency personnel pronounced both men dead shortly after officers arrived at the scene, police said.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicates the two men, who were known to each other, exchanged gunfire during an altercation.

The investigation remains ongoing, as detectives work to piece together the circumstances leading to the fatal encounter.
