$50K Powerball win interrupts Waldorf woman’s dinner plans

by Local News Report

WALDORF, Md. — A Charles County woman’s casual dinner out took an unexpected turn when she discovered she had won $50,000 in the Powerball drawing, leading her to ditch her restaurant meal for takeout and head home in excitement.

The winner, a bank employee and occasional Lottery player, said she typically waits until she has a stack of tickets to scan. While waiting for her order at a restaurant last week, she decided to check her tickets at the establishment, which also serves as a Lottery retailer.

To her astonishment, her $2 quick-pick ticket from the October 19 Powerball drawing turned out to be worth $50,000. Overwhelmed by the surprise, she switched her meal to carryout, saying eating was the last thing on her mind.

The Waldorf resident plans to use her winnings to pay bills and travel. She purchased the winning ticket at Jimmie’s Paddock, located at 4740 Crain Highway in White Plains, a destination she may revisit with a new appreciation.
