Off-duty FDNY firefighter arrested in Brooklyn on assault charge

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — An off-duty firefighter with the New York City Fire Department was arrested Monday night in Brooklyn on an assault charge, police said.

The FDNY identified the firefighter as 49-year-old Nelson Merizalde.

Merizalde was taken into custody at approximately 9:05 p.m. within the confines of the 60th Precinct.

He has been charged with assault in the third degree.

Details surrounding the incident have not been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
