Orioles fan gets grand slam of his own with $136K lottery win

by Local News Report

FALLSTON, Md. — A Delaware resident using the alias Orioles Fan hit it big with a $136,810 jackpot on the Maryland Lottery’s FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Bases Loaded ticket — claiming the final progressive top prize just as the game closed.

Key Points

  • $136,810 winning FAST PLAY ticket sold at Harvest Fare in Fallston
  • Winner intended to buy four tickets but machine printed only two
  • Prize marked the final jackpot for Home Run Riches Bases Loaded

Loyal player lands surprise windfall

The retired nurse and former Harford County resident regularly purchases Home Run Riches tickets to enter into the Contestant of the Game second-chance promotion tied to Orioles baseball. On Monday, he intended to buy four $5 tickets but received only two when the store’s machine halted.

He considered visiting another location to complete his purchase, but decided to head home instead. That’s when he discovered one of the tickets had matched number 32 — triggering the progressive jackpot.

Last jackpot closes out baseball-themed game

Lottery officials confirmed the ticket was the last progressive jackpot in the now-retired Bases Loaded game. It was purchased at Harvest Fare on Belair Road in Fallston. The store will receive a $1,368.10 bonus — 1% of the jackpot — for selling the winning ticket.

The player, who typically enters his tickets into his My Lottery Rewards account and watches Orioles games hoping to be selected as a Contestant of the Game, said he had hoped for a few hundred or thousand dollars from the second-chance drawings. Instead, he walked away with the full six-figure jackpot.

New FAST PLAY game now underway

The successor game, Home Run Riches Walk-Off Winnings, is currently active with all 15 progressive jackpots still available. Players can enter eligible tickets into the second-chance Contestant of the Game drawings through August 25.
