Washington, D.C. — A Southeast D.C. man has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted armed robbery that occurred in February at a business in the 1700 block of U Street NW, police announced Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Todd Marshall, allegedly took property from the business on February 25 around 3:30 p.m. before fleeing the scene. According to investigators, he later returned, pulled out a handgun, and demanded money from an employee. The employee refused, prompting the suspect to flee a second time.

Marshall was arrested on April 29 pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant and is now facing charges of Attempted Armed Robbery (Gun) and Theft Two.

Key points:

  • Todd Marshall, 24, arrested April 29 for attempted armed robbery
  • Incident occurred February 25 at a business on U Street NW
  • Suspect allegedly fled twice, once after theft and again after brandishing firearm

Investigation leads to warrant and arrest two months after incident

According to police, Marshall initially took property from the business without confrontation. His return shortly after — this time allegedly armed — escalated the case to an attempted armed robbery. The employee’s refusal to hand over additional money may have prevented further violence.

The Metropolitan Police Department did not release the name of the business or specify what property was taken during the initial theft.

Suspect facing multiple charges as case proceeds in Superior Court

Marshall has been charged with Attempted Armed Robbery (Gun) and Theft Two. He is expected to appear in court as the case moves forward. No injuries were reported during either encounter.
