MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and multiple weapons-related offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of Christopher Jimenez, 34, last month in Harlem, police announced.
The teenager, whose name has not been released due to his age, is the second person arrested in the ongoing investigation. He faces charges including murder in the second degree, first- and second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon in both the second and fourth degrees, and prohibited use of weapons.
The fatal shooting occurred on Thursday, April 17, at approximately 5:03 p.m., when police responded to a 911 call reporting an assault in progress at 545 West 126th Street, within the confines of the 26th Precinct and PSA6. Officers arriving at the scene found Jimenez with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he was later pronounced dead.
First suspect arrested days after homicide identified as 29-year-old resident
On April 23, Angel Celpa, 29, who also resided at 545 West 126th Street, was arrested and charged in relation to the same case. His charges include criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees, assault in the third degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
Police have not yet disclosed the relationship between the two suspects or the events that led to the shooting. The investigation remains active as detectives work to establish a motive and determine whether additional individuals were involved.
Authorities have not indicated if either suspect fired the fatal shot or what role each may have played in the incident. The weapon used in the shooting has not been publicly recovered.
