JACKSON, NJ — Police Officer Jody Benecke #261 officially retired from the Jackson Township Police Department on May 1 after 25 years in law enforcement, capping a career marked by dedication to public safety and community service.
Benecke, a Jackson native and 1991 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, began her law enforcement journey at Union County College, where she earned an associate degree in criminal justice. She launched her career in 1998 as a telecommunications officer in Cranford, followed by a role as an emergency services dispatcher in Edison.
In a notable early step, Benecke sponsored herself through the alternate route program at the John H. Stamler Police Academy, graduating before joining the Morris County Park Police in 2001. While there, she became a certified PT Instructor and bicycle unit officer, later participating in the 2005 Police Unity Tour from Edison to Washington, D.C.
Benecke joined the Jackson Township Police Department in April 2006. During her tenure, she became a DARE officer, continued her service in the Bicycle Unit, and participated in her second Police Unity Tour in 2018. Her training included courses in Critical Incident Training, ARIDE, and a variety of traffic safety programs.
Throughout her time with the department, she received several commendations, including a Life Saving Award. She is widely respected by colleagues for her professionalism and commitment.

A new chapter begins in Colorado
With her retirement now official, Benecke plans to relocate to Colorado to spend more time with her family. One of her four sons is currently stationed in New Mexico with the U.S. Air Force.
