Drunk driving NYC police detective arrested in Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An off-duty NYPD detective was arrested early Sunday morning in Staten Island and charged with multiple driving offenses, including driving while intoxicated, according to police.

Leonid Shatkin, a 42-year-old male NYPD detective, was taken into custody at approximately 4:19 a.m. within the confines of the 122nd Precinct, which covers neighborhoods including New Dorp, Great Kills, and Tottenville.

Shatkin faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI), and Refusal to Take a Breath Test, according to arrest information released by the NYPD.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been disclosed, and there was no crash or injuries reported at the time of the arrest. It is not clear what prompted officers to stop Shatkin or where the arrest specifically occurred within the precinct.

The NYPD confirmed the arrest and stated the investigation is ongoing. “Driving While Intoxicated” and refusal to comply with chemical testing are handled administratively as well as criminally under department policy.
