LAUREL, Md. — A retired business owner from Laurel scored a $50,000 top prize in Maryland’s Pick 5 game after playing a number combination inspired by her daily horoscope.
The longtime Maryland Lottery player visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim her prize after matching all five digits from the June drawing. The numbers, 25569, came to her during her usual morning routine, which includes reading horoscopes.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Sandy Spring Exxon, located at 7801 Old Sandy Spring Road. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
The Laurel woman, who has played the Lottery for more than 30 years, said she’s previously won smaller amounts but never a prize this large. Her decision to trust the horoscope and play on a gut feeling led to the unexpected windfall.
Veteran Player Plans to Spend Responsibly
She told Lottery officials she intends to use the prize money to pay bills and save, adding that she remains hopeful about future wins.
The Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game continues to draw winners across the state, offering payouts of up to $50,000 on a $1 straight bet.
