Postal worker charged in North Bergen credit card theft and fraud scheme

A postal worker allegedly stole credit cards from mail and helped rack up thousands in illegal charges in a growing North Bergen fraud case.

A United States Postal Service employee has been charged in a credit card theft ring after allegedly stealing cards from the mail during her delivery route in North Bergen, police said.

North Bergen Police announced charges against Eirin Novas and Awilda Taveras-Bido of Newark in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation. Authorities allege Novas intercepted credit cards from residents’ mail and passed them to Taveras-Bido, who used them to make more than $4,000 in fraudulent purchases.

Both individuals now face multiple charges including credit card theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, and conspiracy.

The investigation is still active, and officials believe additional victims may exist. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the department’s detectives. Confidential tips can be submitted via phone or email.
