$4M Mega Millions win puts new home within reach for Silver Spring couple
SILVER SPRING, Md. — A Montgomery County couple is planning to buy a new home after a Mega Millions ticket they played for the March 10 drawing landed a $4 million prize.
The Silver Spring pair matched the first five numbers drawn but missed the Mega Ball, earning the game’s second-tier prize.
Each $5 Mega Millions ticket includes a multiplier that can increase non-jackpot prizes. In this case, the ticket carried a 4X multiplier, boosting the standard $1 million prize to $4 million.
The couple said they used a number combination originally generated by a quick-pick ticket they had purchased the week before. Even though that earlier ticket did not win, they decided to play the same numbers again in the next drawing.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Giant grocery store located at 13490 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring.
The Montgomery County retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the second-tier winning ticket.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
