Plainfield Man Charged for Assault

SOMERVILLE, N.J. – A Somerset County jury convicted Victor Ogando-Marte, 39, from Plainfield, of third-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree resisting arrest, and disorderly persons inflicting bodily injury with a deadly weapon.

The verdict was announced following a week-long trial that concluded on Friday. Assistant Prosecutor Ryan A. Quiñones and Litigation Paralegal Tiffany Gordon represented the state. Sentencing is scheduled for November 1, at which time Ogando-Marte faces up to five years in New Jersey State Prison.

The charges stem from an incident on April 13, 2022, when Ogando-Marte was driving an illegal dirt bike on Route 22 in North Plainfield, accompanied by a group of approximately 15-20 individuals. Testimony during the trial revealed that the group was driving recklessly, weaving through traffic, performing wheelies, and blocking other vehicles. Near the intersection of Rock Avenue, Officer James Kirchner of the North Plainfield Police Department tried to apprehend Ogando-Marte.
