DEER PARK, N.Y. — The Suffolk County Police Department’s Street Takeover Task Force arrested four individuals and impounded five vehicles over a 24-hour period during a weekend enforcement effort targeting illegal street racing and reckless driving.
On Friday evening, officers arrested a 21-year-old man from Coram and seized his 2004 Infiniti. Police said the arrest was connected to an incident five days earlier when the man fled from officers during a traffic stop for speeding and reckless driving.
The task force continued its operations into Saturday, when they responded to a 911 call reporting a street takeover at the intersection of Long Island Avenue and Commack Road in Deer Park. Upon arrival, officers arrested three more individuals and impounded four vehicles.
No injuries were reported during the enforcement actions. Authorities did not release the names of those arrested.
The department has made street takeovers a priority, citing the ongoing threat such gatherings pose to public safety and traffic flow.

In a statement posted to social media, the Suffolk County Police Department highlighted the quick action of the task force, noting the arrests occurred within a span of less than 24 hours.
The task force was formed to combat the rise in illegal street racing and gatherings, which have drawn increased attention from local residents and officials in recent months.
Police said investigations into other related incidents are ongoing and more enforcement efforts are expected in the coming weeks.
The department urged the public to continue reporting street takeovers and reckless driving through 911 or the department’s tip line.
