Wilkinsburg caregiver charged with stealing $64K from 70-year-old patient
PITCAIRN, PA – A 37-year-old Wilkinsburg woman has been charged after Allegheny County Police say she stole more than $64,000 from a 70-year-old patient under her in-home care.
Detectives began investigating on June 16 after the victim’s family reported suspicious financial activity. They told investigators that the woman, who lives in Pitcairn, had been receiving in-home care when unauthorized checks began appearing between September 2024 and June 2025.
The investigation revealed 59 checks totaling $64,375 had been altered and deposited through a mobile banking app. The funds were then transferred into an account owned by Brittany Miller, who was part of the patient’s caregiving team at the time.
Police said the victim never authorized the transactions.
Miller is now facing multiple charges, including identity theft, forgery, financial exploitation of an older adult or care-dependent person, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.
