Power Play boosts Richmond Powerball ticket to $2 million prize

RICHMOND, VA – A trip to a local Wawa turned into a multimillion-dollar moment for one lucky Powerball player, who is now holding a $2 million winning ticket from Saturday night’s drawing.

The ticket was purchased at the Wawa located at 7316 Forest Hill Avenue and matched the first five numbers drawn on October 25: 2, 12, 22, 39, 67, missing only the Powerball number 15. Ordinarily, that combination would score a $1 million prize. However, the buyer added the Power Play option for an extra $1 — doubling the win to $2 million.

It was the only ticket in Virginia to match the first five numbers and just one of two nationwide to hit that prize tier in the drawing. No one matched all six numbers to claim the $344 million jackpot, which now grows to an estimated $358 million for Monday night’s drawing.

The winner, whose identity remains unknown, has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize. Virginia Lottery officials strongly urge the ticket holder to sign the back of the ticket immediately to establish ownership and then contact the Lottery to begin the claims process.

For selling the winning ticket, the Wawa location will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, while the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 25.

All profits from the Virginia Lottery benefit K-12 public education across the state. Richmond, where the winning ticket was sold, received over $22.5 million in Lottery funds for education last fiscal year. Overall, the Virginia Lottery contributed more than $901 million to schools in Fiscal Year 2025, making up roughly 10 percent of the state’s total K-12 education budget.
