Glen Burnie man arrested after pulling gun in road rage confrontation

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A 34-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly pulling a handgun during a road rage confrontation in Glen Burnie, leading to multiple firearm charges and the recovery of a loaded weapon.

Officers from the Northern District responded at approximately 6:55 p.m. on November 13 to an assault report in the 7200 block of Furnace Branch Road East. The incident began when the victim’s vehicle was nearly struck by a black Toyota pickup truck near Furnace Branch Road and Route 10.

Both vehicles pulled into a nearby parking lot, where the victim approached the other driver to confront him. The suspect, identified as Erick Brett Metzger of Glen Burnie, reportedly brandished a handgun and threatened the victim before fleeing the scene.

Using the county’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, investigators quickly located the suspect vehicle in the 7300 block of Ritchie Highway. Officers apprehended Metzger without incident and recovered a 9mm Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun during the arrest.

Further investigation revealed Metzger is legally prohibited from possessing firearms and had an outstanding arrest warrant at the time of the incident. He was taken into custody and faces multiple charges related to assault and firearm violations.
