Ohio man hits jackpot with numbers he’s played for years

Bedford Heights man cashes in $52K Pick 5 jackpot after playing same number for years

Bedford Heights, OH — A Bedford Heights man’s persistence finally paid off last week when his go-to number combination hit in the January 10 Pick 5 drawing, scoring him a $52,500 prize just when he needed it most.

The lucky winner, whose name was not released by the Ohio Lottery, said he has been playing the same number sequence — 2-4-4-4-5 — for years, hoping it would someday come through. That day finally came, and it couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Out of work due to health issues, he said the win will help cover bills and allow him to do something special for his wife.

He matched all five numbers to win the game’s $50,000 top prize, and picked up an additional $2,500 by placing a 20-way box bet, boosting his total payout to $52,500. After state and federal taxes, he’ll take home $38,456.25.

The winning ticket was purchased at Bedford Sunoco on Northfield Road. The Pick 5 game offers daily drawings seven days a week, with midday and evening draws, except on Saturday nights when the evening draw airs during the Ohio Lottery’s Cash Explosion show.

This win is one of many funded by the Ohio Lottery, which has contributed more than $34 billion to education since its launch in 1974.
