Pick 5 pays off big for Bedford Heights man with $52,500 win
BEDFORD HTS., OH — A man from Bedford Heights who plays the same numbers regularly finally saw his persistence pay off when the January 10 Pick 5 drawing delivered a $52,500 payday — just when he needed it most.
The winning combination — 2-4-4-4-5 — matched exactly with the numbers on his ticket. He said he was stunned when he saw the result and double-checked using the Ohio Lottery app, then confirmed again with his wife. Both were in disbelief.
The man won $50,000 for matching all five numbers in exact order and picked up an additional $2,500 from a 20-way box bet, which adds combinations to increase potential winnings. After required federal and state taxes, his take-home amount will be $38,456.25.
He told lottery officials the win came at a critical time. He has been out of work due to ongoing health issues and plans to use the money to pay off bills and do something special for his wife in appreciation for her support.
The winning ticket was sold at Bedford Sunoco, located at 667 Northfield Road in Bedford.
Pick 5 drawings are held twice daily, seven days a week — at 12:29 p.m. and 7:29 p.m. — except for Saturday evenings, when the drawing airs during the Cash Explosion TV show from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education initiatives across the state since 1974.
