Ohio woman strikes gold with grocery store scratch-off

Grove City woman hits $50K jackpot on scratch-off during grocery run

GROVE CITY, OH – A routine trip to the grocery store turned into a windfall for one Grove City woman who walked away with $50,000 after a last-minute decision to buy one more scratch-off ticket.

The woman, a caregiver by profession, had just finished scratching several losing tickets when she made one final purchase — a $10 Ultimate Jackpot $5,000,000 ticket — at the Giant Eagle supermarket located at 2173 Stringtown Road. That ticket hit big, landing her the $50,000 prize.

She said the win felt like a sign. The woman had recently lost a longtime client who she considered special, and she believes the winnings were a gift from above. Now, she plans to honor her late mother by using the money to start a balloon business in her name.

After standard tax withholding of 26.75%, she will take home $36,625 in net winnings.

The Ultimate Jackpot $5,000,000 is currently advertised as offering the best odds in Ohio Lottery history to win the $5 million grand prize. As of Monday, six top prizes remain — each valued at $200,000 a year for 25 years.

The Ohio Lottery, which has been operating since 1974, reports contributing more than $34 billion to state education funding. Additional details on prize odds and lottery-supported programs can be found at www.ohiolottery.com/supportingeducation.
