Young man found fatally shot on K Street Tuesday night
WASHINGTON, DC – An 18-year-old man was shot and killed on a Southeast street Tuesday evening, drawing a heavy police presence to the 300 block of K Street as investigators worked through the night to piece together what happened.
Officers assigned to the First District were dispatched to the area at approximately 6:44 p.m. after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the roadway.
Emergency medical crews responded within minutes and attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Dontay Smith of Southeast, D.C.
The shooting occurred along a residential stretch of K Street Southeast, an area that remained cordoned off as officers collected evidence and canvassed for witnesses. No information about a suspect or possible motive has been released.
The investigation remains active.
