A 24-year-old man is jailed after calling 911 and reporting the woman was unresponsive.

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A late-night 911 call from an apartment on the city’s northwest side ended with a woman found dead and the caller charged with her killing, according to police and jail records. Officers responding to The Park at Sutton Oaks complex were told a woman “was not responding” after being placed in a headlock, a statement that quickly shifted the call into a homicide investigation.

Marc Balditt, 24, is being held in the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a murder charge. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim.

911 call and police response

Officers with the San Antonio Police Department were dispatched to the Locke Street apartment around 10 p.m. Wednesday. According to a police report cited by local media, Balditt told dispatchers the woman became unresponsive after he put her in a headlock.

When officers entered the apartment, they found the woman with “redness on her neck” and what appeared to be vomit on her face. Emergency responders attempted aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Statements to investigators

Investigators said Balditt told them the two had been discussing their child when an argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Police allege he placed the woman in a “chokehold” for “1 to 2 minutes” in an attempt to “put her to sleep.”

He was taken into custody and booked on a murder charge. Bond was set at $250,000, according to jail records.

Child custody and court date

After the incident, the couple’s child was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, according to local reports. Balditt is expected to appear in court on Aug. 12.

Authorities have not released additional details about the victim or the circumstances leading up to the altercation.
