Police say a 14-year-old was taken into custody after a National Guardsman witnessed an assault on Hiatt Place
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A National Guardsman who witnessed a suspect pistol whipping a victim in Northwest DC helped lead police to a 14-year-old boy’s arrest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident occurred Thursday at approximately 5:25 p.m. in the 3100 block of Hiatt Place NW.
Police said a National Guardsman observed the suspect striking the victim with a handgun and alerted authorities.
MPD officers quickly responded to the scene and, following an on-scene investigation, located the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The suspect was identified as a 14-year-old juvenile male from Northwest DC.
He was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Carrying a Pistol Without a License, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.
Police did not release additional information about the victim or the circumstances that led to the assault.
The investigation remains ongoing.
