CUMBERLAND, Md. – The Cumberland Police Department announced the arrests of two Cumberland residents in separate incidents involving an assault investigation and a trespassing complaint.
Police said officers, assisted by the Maryland State Police, served an arrest warrant on Jeffrey Wayne Wahl, 49, on Wednesday following an investigation into an alleged assault that occurred April 21.
Assault investigation leads to felony charges
According to investigators, Wahl allegedly strangled a female victim and attempted to take her cellphone during the incident. He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking before appearing before a District Court commissioner.
Authorities said Wahl was released on an unsecured $10,000 bond. He is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and attempted theft of property valued at less than $100. Criminal charges are allegations, and Wahl is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Woman cited after refusing to leave business
In a separate incident at approximately 2:50 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue for a report of a woman trespassing and arguing with employees.
Police said Theresa Marie Bailey, 37, remained on the property after being ordered several times to leave. She was arrested without incident, transported to the Cumberland City Police Station, issued a criminal citation charging her with trespassing on private property and released pending trial in District Court.
