NEVADA — Hend Bustami, a 29-year-old woman from Nevada, has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the murder of her mother, Afaf Hussanen. The sentencing was ordered by Clark County District Court Judge Jacqueline M. Bluth, following Bustami’s guilty plea to second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
The case gained national attention last year when Bustami claimed her arrest was due to her being “so good-looking.” However, the focus shifted to the severe nature of the crime, involving the stabbing of her 61-year-old mother multiple times in their home.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Bluth took into account Bustami’s history of mental illness, including multiple psychoses and other disorders. A psychologist’s assessment found Bustami had been experiencing “intermittent exacerbations of psychosis” and was in need of ongoing psychiatric treatment.
The court confirmed that Bustami, who was found competent to stand trial, would receive credit for time already served and would continue to receive mental health treatment while incarcerated. She will be eligible for parole in 2037.
