Camden county student hit by vehicle while boarding school bus

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 15-year-old student of Camden County Technical Schools’ Gloucester Township Campus was struck by a vehicle this morning while attempting to board her school bus. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM at the intersection of Hickstown Road and Heatherwood Drive.

Gloucester Township Police responded to the scene following a report of a pedestrian hit. The student, who was seriously injured, was found having been struck while crossing Hickstown Road to get on her school bus. EMS and Fire Department personnel arrived promptly, providing immediate treatment to the student.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the contracted school bus was fully stopped with its red warning lights and stop sign extended when the accident happened. The victim was crossing the westbound lane of Hickstown Road from Heatherwood Drive. The vehicle, traveling westbound, failed to halt for the bus’s warning signals and hit the student.

The driver involved in the incident stopped at the scene. No other students were reported injured. The Gloucester Township Police Department Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) is actively investigating the crash.

Following the accident, the student was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. Camden County Technical School officials are supporting the family and implementing crisis procedures. Hickstown Road was closed for approximately two and a half hours and has since been reopened.
