April 5, 2024

MIDDLETOWN, DE – The Delaware State Police are actively investigating a violent road rage incident that took place on Route 13 in Middletown, resulting in a 19-year-old victim being injured.

The incident unfolded on the morning of March 31, around 9:31 AM, involving an orange Kia Forte and a silver Jeep Cherokee. According to preliminary findings, both vehicles stopped in the left turn lane of Route 13 northbound at Port Penn Road after engaging in a road rage altercation.

An altercation ensued when an unidentified male suspect exited the Jeep Cherokee and approached the Kia Forte. A friend of the victim, driving a blue Nissan Rogue, noticed the approaching suspect and also exited her vehicle. The confrontation escalated into a physical fight involving the victim, her friend, and the suspect. The altercation ended when the victim, in an act of self-defense, pushed the suspect into a guardrail. The victim, noticing she was bleeding from a cut on her upper arm, then fled the scene in her vehicle.

The suspect is described as an older white male, around 5’9” tall with a slender build and a long gray beard. He was last seen wearing a red and white trucker hat, a red and black long sleeve flannel shirt over a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and black cowboy boots. The suspect, who may have been armed with a black, flip-open style pocketknife, was driving a silver Jeep Cherokee.

The Delaware State Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
